“Trauma” enters our lives in various ways. Sometimes traumatic events happen to us, and sometimes things that should have happened, do not. Both conditions can cause PTSD symptoms, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and other difficulties at various times or throughout life. Trauma is a complex issue with effects and treatment needs that vary for each individual. I have extensive training and experience helping people recover from the effects of traumatic events and continue to learn and grow in this area.
One proven treatment for the effects of trauma, for anxiety, and for grief is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing or EMDR. Side-to-side eye movement, taps, or sounds are used to engage both sides of the brain to help in processing distressing memories, making the memories or events less emotionally charged over time and helping integrate traumatic memories into a more adaptive memory network in the brain.
